Janet Skidmore

Janet has been a member of numerous choirs and small singing ensembles all her life, and has been seen at a number of open mics and piano bars in Chicago and the Twin Cities. She performed as a backup singer and band member in "Woody Guthrie's American Song" in Chicago and here in "Tales of Hoffman" with Mixed Precipitation. She has sung in productions at Open Eye Figure Theatre and Minnetonka Community Theater. Aspiring to be a walking song encyclopedia, Ms. Skidmore performs an eclectic range of songs from folk to jazz to classical. An artist of many interests she has studied with Dudley Riggs Brave New Institute and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theatre. Ms. Skidmore sings with the Dickens Christmas Carolers, has a mosaic artcar called "Red Mountain" (www.artcarparade.com), is rehabbing a 1911 house, and works in her own garden business.
She is also a dancer/choreographer turned singer/actress. In the Twin Cities she has appeared in dance performances by Hijack, John Munger, Penelope Freeh, and Bob Eisen. Her choreography has been seen at Patrick's Cabaret, Bryant Lake Bowl, and the Minnesota Fringe Festival, where her one woman show "Marie Taglioni is not a dish of Pasta, OR Modern Dance, from Toe Shoes to No Shoes" received a "Must See" from the Pioneer Press. A former dance specialist in the Chicago Public Schools she has been a dance roster artist for the Illinois Arts Council, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and Young Audiences of Minnesota.
